Back To Main. Programming an alarm system is probably one of the most challenging aspects to DIY alarm installers. Hi, Ryan here with alarmsystemstore. So let's get right to it, let's go to my table and let's program the system. Now, you've got your system all wired up, and it's ready to be programmed. A couple of things that I'd like to do before I program any system is I make sure I have, off our website in the knowledge base is a quick start guide and, you click on knowledge base, and then you click on the manufacturer and then the system that you have and It'll pull up different documents.

For the systems we sell we do have a quick start guide, and it basically dissects the installation manual. For the since the new version 4. Quick start guide, and also in my piece of paper which in this case I've already filled out a little bit. On the paper, it's gonna be easiest if you write down all your zones, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, how many zones you have.

What's on each zone, whether it's 4, this is a front door, my Zone 2 is a motion, and then the zone definition and type that you plan on using. There's several different types of definitions, 01, for example, is an entry-exit door that will give me an entry-exit delay when I come and leave, I can come in and out that door. It's typically used for motion detectors when your system is armed in away mode, your motion detector will be armed, it will go off instantly. If your home and your system is armed in the stay mode, your motion detector will be bypassed.

That way you walk into the kitchen, or you walk through your living room, you get up in the middle of the night to use the restroom, you're not setting off your system when you walk in front of your motion detector.

In stay mode, your motion detectors are the only things that's bypassed. Your doors, windows, glass, breaks, smoke detectors, all those will be armed and active. So when you're in stay mode the only thing affected is usually anything that set has 05 which typically is just motion detectors.

Also on this piece of paper, you'd want to put down the delay time that you would want for your entry and exit, which this in case I wrote my entry time first, I want 30 seconds and I want 60 seconds when I leave. And then also a code that I plan on using as my master code so that I'm not using the default The DSC shares the same programming as theand the as they are basically the same panel, with a different number of zones, etc.

Default Installer code: Default Master code: You should hear 3 beeps, one long beep means incorrect code. When programming a DSC you need to enter a 3-digit location number. Pressing will take you back out of the location and into 'programming limbo', where you can enter another location.

To exit programming mode completely, you need to press from 'programming limbo'. If you are in a location, just push a couple times and you will get out.

Technical Details

This will revert all programming back to factory defaults. First you must power the panel down. Next, remove any wiring from the zone 1 terminal and the PGM 1 terminal. Get a short loop of wire and link zone 1 and PGM 1. Power the panel up and after 10 seconds everything should be defaulted and you can remove the wire loop.

If not, the panel may be locked. All hardwired zones can be either normally closed no resistorssingle EOL with a 5. To set the zone EOL resistor value, go to location Fire zones must be wired differently. Regardless of how location is programmed, a fire zone should have a 5. Use zone type 08 for hardwired smoke detectors and 88 for wireless smoke detectors.

Zones need a 2-digit zone type assigned for them to work. As you programme each 2-digit zone type, it will jump to the next zone. When you finish all 16 zones in that location, it will leave the location. If you are only programming the 6 on board zones, just press when you have programmed the last zone you wish. To skip a zone press the arrow key twice.Your question may be answered by sellers, manufacturers, or customers who purchased this item, who are all part of the Amazon community.

I purchased the IT board and then decided I wanted to expand it a bit further to include more zones. I quickly realized I could use the IT board and some time to systematically determine the installer code but the time spent on that would be spent only because I had some concerns regarding reprogramming it.

I decided to reprogram it myself and here are my notes for anyone attempting to program or even reprogram their own DSC alarm. The process is incredibly straight forward with only a few caveats.

I have another system with PK keypads and they are great. Get at least one of them to help with the programming. Time to factory reset the system. To do this you have to short the zone 1 pin not the z1 common pin with the PGM1 pin.

dsc 1832

Thus, you have to ground Z1 to PGM and power the system up for 10 seconds and then power it off, remove the jumper and then power it back on. Okay, now it is reset and ready for programming. I have four keypads plus the IT so my keypad bus is busy.

At each keypad I enrolled each one one by one. My alarm is not UL based and is wired with normally closed loops. You have to tell the DSC this or it will think all of the zones are in an alarm state. The in the First Option Code group we need to make sure option 1 is on.

This is probably the most complex step in the process. You need to map out all of your zones. Here was my table of zones and types:. My alarm panel was in trouble mode until I told the system I will not be using the telephone system I am monitoring it via an online service. Therefore, I had to tell it not to consider the alarm in trouble mode if the telephone system was having issues in the Third System Option.

Partitioning was the one step in the process that was initially confusing for me. You have to partition the zones above eight be in the same partition as the other zones. I have 24 zones on my system provided by the 8 default zones on the PC and the 16 additional zones from the two additional PC expanders. A: No, it requires a hard reset. Q: Do I need to add resistors, all of my wiring is closed loop? A: You do not the DSC alarm can be programmed to work with normally closed loops as long as it is not a UL requirement.

Q: How come zones 1 - 8 are working but zones 9 - 24 are not working? A: That is because they are in the wrong partition and have to be moved into partition one.

The DSC factory resets with zones 9-X in partition 0 so they do not appear in partition 1 automatically. A: Initially I thought I had the jumpers wrong on the system but it turns out they were in a zero partition and using codesand fixed that question above. The IT board was fun to mess with and was somewhat nostalgic.Capable of up to 8 hardwired zones out of the box and expandable up to 32 wired or wireless.

The DSC Power model offers four possible area partitions and can accommodate up to 48 user entry codes. We offer many different kit combos for this system in particular since it is our most popular. Opens in new window. It is a great choice for most average sized homes or small businesses. The is the most popular of the PowerSeries panels. The PC panel has 8 onboard hardwired zones.

The panel can be expanded up to 32 total zones. This can be done using PC zone expander modules. The PC adds 8 hardwired zones. With 3 of the PC boards you can reach the max of 32 hardwired zones. But the PowerSeries is a hybrid system that can be expanded to support wireless devices as well and can have all 32 zones be wireless or any combination of hardwired and wireless up to 32 total zones.

To add wireless capability the system needs to have a wireless receiver module attached. This is most commonly done with the RF wireless receiver module. Remember that while it is convenient and budget-friendly to have the wireless receiver built into the keypad, it will also limit you on the placement of the wireless receiver to where you need to place a keypad and not necessarily in a very ideal location to receive signals from wireless devices.

This is often not an issue though. PGM 1 is a low-current output that can handle 50mA. PGM 2 is a high-current output that is limited to a much higher mA of current.

The PGM outputs are useful for many things, but they are generally used for smoke detectors. The other is the PC power supply module. This module not only adds 4 high-current PGM outputs, but also acts as an additional power supply that adds an additional 1 amp of power. The PC can be used just to provide power for components.

A PTK touchscreen keypad is a fairly power hungry device that requires up to mA of power. Just that one component takes up nearly half of the available power on the main panel. You can see how you can quickly you could need to provide additional power when you take into account a communicator, motion detectors, smoke detectors, keypads, and other powered components. If you do Add to Cart Ship out same day or within 24 hours 1.
